Installing the TSXCUSBMBP Driver Software The TSXCUSBMBP Driver software must be installed before connecting the TSXCUSBMBP device to
the USB port. The driver software is provided on a CD that is included with the adapter. Use the
following procedure to install it.
Installing the TSXCUSBMBP Hardware
The TSXCUSBMBP can be connected directly to a USB port on the PC or through a USB hub. The
unit is powered by the USB port or hub, so no power connection is needed.
NOTE: Before you attach the TSXCUSBMBP to a USB port, you must first install the
TSXCUSBMBP driver software. If you have not yet installed the driver software, please do
so before proceeding.

Step Action
1 Insert the CD labeled Modbus Plus Driver Suite into your CD drive.
2 The installation should begin automatically. If not, follow the procedure below to start the
installation manually.
• From the Start menu (Start button on Windows task bar), select Run.
• Type in D:\Setup.exe (if your CD drive is not D:, substitute the drive letter of your CD
drive) and click OK.
3 Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the software installation.
4 The final step of the software installation will display a message window containing
instructions. Please read the instructions carefully.

NOTE: You can use more than one TSXCUSBMBP adapter in a single system. The device
configuration for each is tied to the specific USB port and does not follow the adapter if it
is plugged into a different port. To ensure that you use the desired settings, be sure that
you always plug the TSXCUSBMBP device into the same USB port.
NOTE: For more information on the installation, configuration and use of the TSXCUSBMBP communication adapter, please refer to the Help file that is installed with the driver
software.
Modbus Plus Status LED
The table below explains the flash codes for the Modbus Plus Status LED.
Step Action
1 Verify that the TSXCUSBMBP Driver software is installed.
2 Connect a USB cable from the USB connector on the TSXCUSBMBP to a USB port on the
PC or to a USB hub connected to the PC. Do not connect the Modbus Plus network cable
yet.
3 The system will respond with the message that your new hardware is ready to use.
(Note that this message will not be displayed on systems running Windows 2000.)
4 All parameters for the new device will default to standard settings, which may or may not
fully match the desired settings. Therefore, the next step is to access the Windows Device
Manager to modify these settings as needed.
5 Connect the Modbus Plus network cable to the Modbus Plus port on the TSXCUSBMBP.

Code Description
Six flashes/
second
The TSXCUSBMBP is successfully receiving and passing the token on the
Modbus Plus network. This is the normal operating mode for a node on a Modbus
Plus network.
One flash/
second
The TSXCUSBMBP is offline, and monitoring the Modbus Plus network to
determine which nodes are active prior to attempting to join the network.
Two flashes,
then pause
The TSXCUSBMBP can hear the token being passed, but never receives the
token.
Three flashes,
then pause
The TSXCUSBMBP cannot hear the token being passed. This is the flash code to
expect if the Modbus Plus cable is not connected to the TSXCUSBMBP.
Four flashes,
then pause
The TSXCUSBMBP has detected another node on the Modbus Plus network
using the same node address as the TSXCUSBMBP. The TSXCUSBMBP will
remain in this state until it has not heard any messages from any other node with
the same node address for at least 5 seconds.
