Product Description (Detailed Explanation)
The IC200CHS002B is a Barrier-Style I/O Carrier. In the VersaMax architecture, the carrier is the part that remains fixed to the DIN rail, while the active I/O module (the “intelligence”) snaps onto it. This “plug-and-play” design allows for “Hot Swapping” of modules without disturbing the field wiring.
The Barrier-Style design features exposed screw terminals separated by plastic walls (barriers). This layout is preferred in industrial environments where high-vibration resistance and secure, high-torque wire clamping are required. It provides a direct interface between the I/O module and the sensors or actuators in the field.

Product Advantages (Key Benefits)
-
Independent Wiring: Field wiring is completed on the carrier before the I/O module is installed, allowing for pre-commissioning and easier troubleshooting.
-
Secure Connections: The barrier-style screw terminals provide superior mechanical retention, making them ideal for heavy-duty industrial applications where wires might be subject to tension or vibration.
-
Modular Versatility: The carrier is universal across the VersaMax range, meaning you can standardize on one type of base while using various digital or analog modules.
-
Ease of Maintenance: If a module fails, it can be replaced in seconds without a screwdriver, significantly reducing Mean Time To Repair (MTTR).
-
Compact Footprint: Despite having 36 terminals, the slim design allows for high-density I/O configurations in small control cabinets.
Precautions (Important Notes)
-
Torque Settings: Do not over-tighten the barrier screws. Recommended torque is typically 0.5 to 0.6 Nm. Excessive force can crack the plastic housing or strip the threads.
-
Module Alignment: Ensure the I/O module is correctly aligned with the carrier’s connector pins before snapping it into place. Forcing a misaligned module can bend the backplane pins.
-
Power Removal: While the system supports hot-swapping, it is always best practice to verify that the field power (24VDC or 120VAC) is off before disconnecting high-power wiring from the terminals.
-
Environmental Limits: The unit is rated for an operating temperature of $0^{\circ}C$ to $60^{\circ}C$. Ensure adequate ventilation if the carrier is mounted in a densely packed enclosure.
-
Grounding: Ensure the DIN rail is properly grounded, as the carrier relies on the rail for functional earth (FE) continuity for some modules.
Product Applications (Typical Use Cases)
-
Factory Automation: Used as the distributed I/O base for assembly lines, conveyors, and packaging machinery.
-
Water/Wastewater Treatment: Ideal for housing analog input modules that monitor flow, pressure, and level sensors in pump stations.
-
Process Control: Providing a stable wiring interface for temperature and pressure transmitters in chemical or food processing plants.
-
Power Distribution: Monitoring status contacts and controlling circuit breakers in low-voltage switchgear.
-
HVAC Systems: Serving as the I/O interface for large-scale building management systems controlling fans, dampers, and chillers.
